ABOUT

Rebekka Van Bockstal (1994, Lier) is a dynamic young guitar player, who gets her inspiration from the many traditions and possibilities jazzmusic offers. While composing her own music, she feels inspired by musicians like Pierre Van Dormael, Robin Verheyen, Lage Lund, Maria Schneider,… 

In 2012 Rebekka started at the Jazz division of the Conservatory of Ghent. Here she was taught for three years by Hans Van Oost, it was his drive and passion for the music that inspired her and continues to do so until this day. After receiving her bachelor’s degree, Rebekka decided it was time for some change. In 2015 she chose to continue her studies in Brussels and persue her masters degree at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. Where she attained here Masters degree under the tutelage of Peter Hertmans 

She got her first live-experience playing with Art Brut 5tet. In 2015 the band got some acknowledgement as a finalist in the ‘Concourse XL Jazz’-competition during the Brussels Jazz Marathon. From 2016 her main musical focus became her own quartet: RVB Quartet. This project gave her the opportunity to share and perform her own compositions for the first time. The band released their first album 'Crossing Dimensions' in 2018 on Solitude Records. In 2017 Rebekka started Tadpole Evolution, this band would become Rebekka’s graduation project at the Brussels Conservatory. Since 2018 No Wasabi is an important project with also Machiel Heremans on the guitar. The duo came up with a debut album 'No Wasabi' in 2019 on the Buzz label (Challenge Records).
 After the Covid-break, RVB Quartet came up with a second album that was released on W.E.R.F.records in march 2022. With this album, called Operation Dinner Out, the band played at great jazzclubs and venues around Belgium. They got also attention from international press.
